http://fathistorymonth.bandcamp.com/album/bad-history-demos

We sold out of our first 7",
Safe & Sound
Hidden Temple's reissuing it on cassette with 2 extra songs plus 5 secret first demos on the b-side.
 That'll be done by January.
Here's some fine music journalism written about it recently:
Oops! Earlier in this 7-Inch Roundup I was talking about the Bedroom Suck label, saying how the bands they released were all Australian, and how I was writing up everything I thought I had by 'em, but I was wrong on both counts. Not only did I find another 7" on Bedroom Suck near the bottom of the ol' pile (I'm almost done!), it's by a band that is NOT from Australia! They're from America even, Boston to be exact, and they're called Fat History Month. I'll admit, I thought Fat History Month were going to sound like Fat Day, who are also from Boston and have a band-name that starts with the adjective Fat. But I was completely wrong, because Side A "Safe & Sound" is a sweeping moody near-instrumental that's downright heavy and lovely and gently proggy . . . not what I was expecting . . . it might reveal emo roots a little after the song goes on awhile, especially when, right before the song ends, a guy singer comes in for one single meek but heartfelt verse . . . but shit, I just keep thinking how much better they are at it than, like, Mogwai. I'm picking on Mogwai because they're boring, but also because they're somewhat popular, and both bands use a certain type of post-spaghetti western, post-Slint guitar style to evoke big wind-swept landscapes. Thing is, Mogwai shows you the landscape, but they never get any wind sweeping through it. They just expect you to say "awesome photo" for a whole hour. Fat History Month is actually pretty adept at getting some wind sweeping through their emo-prog landscapes, which makes the "photo" living and three-dimensional. Surprised to learn that there's just two members, a singer/guitarist and a drummer, because they have a full sound.
-Blastitude
I agree pal, Mogwai stinks, I'm glad we ripped off Do Make Say Think instead.
You can still order the vinyl from Bedroom Suck in Australia, here

Speaking of Hidden Temple, they also just put out this tape of Pile's demos, looks pretty sseeewweeeetttt,

you can order one here:

Hidden Temple

also, finally made some Museum of Fat History tapes, old out of print stuff, our first tape + the shaq history tape on the a-side and 10 live covers and oldies on the b-side,  21 songs total, plus a road map of fat history.
Available here:
http://fathistorymonth.bandcamp.com/album/museum-of-fat-history-vol-1
and at Wierdo and Armageddon Records.

Finally, these sweet dudes are helping us put out our next record, they made a sampler of us and all the other bands they REP:

Exploding In Sound Records

Some kind words in Portuguese

The genre? Some say it's Skittle Rain, without me having no prior knowledge of this classification, the stamp is from Sophomore Lounge Records, and the release was in 2011, August. Fucking Despair, is one of the albums of the band Fat History Month, and the first fully own. The chemistry between drummer Mark and vocal / guitarist Sean is amazing, the instrumental banda is mingled, the lightness and the feeling in the music tax is to envy for many bands.

The sound of Despair Fucking beautiful as shown in the first track of the album, Free As A Cat, which begins with a beat and a melody lighter more chaotic. It is in Nature, sixth track on the album, we see the potential of being realized banda, which to me, is the best track on the album, with its nearly seven minutes.
Fat History Month has only 343 registered listeners on last.fm, as has tags the words "guitar", "90s", "drums", "duo", among others. One of those bands that nobody knows but everyone should know. The talent of these two guys is incredible, a gift to the ears.

they like pile too.
 sweet

also, made more of these new demos if you didn't get one:

Write-In

Fat History Month | Fucking Despair

When we scanned the results of the Best Boston Album/EP category in this year’s BMP, there were more than 70 albums nominated via write-in. Although a vast majority of those came up in the final tally once or twice, one record showed up a bunch: Fat History Month’s Fucking Despair. A social media campaign to get the album recognized by the Phoenix was heard loud and clear, so we reached out to Noah Bond of the pRIMORDIAL sOUNDS blog/label/event and booking collective to give us the deets on a band we clearly, and mistakenly, overlooked:
This year’s Best Music Poll did an excellent job of highlighting some of the top acts in the city. Unfortunately, the very nature of such a poll sometimes leaves truly amazing bands out of the action. A prime example is Allston’s Fat History Month, a band that owes its allegiance to the Boston underground, and is easily one of the most exciting acts in the city today. Their second full length, Fucking Despair, came out on Chicago-based Sophomore Lounge Records earlier this year and quickly rallied obsessive praise all over town. Members Sean (guitar/vocals) and Mark (drums) have a rare chemistry that, to put it simply, blows any other two-man band out of the water. Their songs are beautifully loud poems of hilarity and disparity, simultaneously loose, noisy, dynamic, expertly crafted, and — above all — honest. When you see FHM play live, it’s hard to resist the urge to grab every person you know and demand they listen to this band. And by the way, if you haven’t seen them play, you should get on that. Songs such as “Free As a Cat on a Leash” or “Nature” are excellent on the record, but become spine-tingling, sweat-soaked symphonies when performed live. All in all, FHM is a once-in-a lifetime kind of band, and we should be proud to have them representing our city’s underground flavor.

Fucking Badass Review, hot damn, thanks man

Fat History Month – “Fucking Despair” LP – Sophomore Lounge [Album As Art #172]

Fat History Month - "Fucking Despair" LP - Sophomore Lounge
Just as I start bemoaning the absence of Oxes-/Race Car Riot-ish math-rock in today’s conversation I stumble upon Fucking Despair and … well, there you have it: A band – Fat History Month — that has it all. Incisive drumming, guitar riffs that sing and shriek without resorting to distortion, bass that chases it all down and vocals that manage the compositions well, with melody and urgency. They’re never too far off, and you don’t want them to go away. Very sneaky, indeed; audio assassins for hire, shooting to kill with a decent production set-up to boot.
When the guitars meander and spiral through the air with complete precision and control I’m reminded most of Modest Mouse, one band that truly never met an instrumental breakdown it didn’t like. FHM believe just as vehemently, and that’s when they excel — when all concerns melt away and all that’s left is riff and rhythm and spark and smoke. If they were even a hint heavier, they would beShearing Pinx (though SP delve into more open expanses and have about 100 more releases out than Fat; give it time); if they were lighter, they might well be …REO Speedwagon? Shit no, that ain’t right. Maybe Holopaw? No no … wait, I’ve got it: They’d be Chin Up Chin Up, or maybe even Make Believe. HA!
The 11-minutes-plus jaunt “You Can Pick Your Nose…” instills that old giddy, just-comin’-up-on-Drive Like Jehu-and-Death Cab For Cutie-and-Pinback vibe. Very basic, very Appleseed Cast taken down a notch, very fiery when it gets its dander up … You’ve never heard strictly clean guitars ratchet up intensity this effortlessly (even Slint used to scratch their shit up, especially in the early years) track-in, track-out, nor have you heard many singers that can hold their own when compositions this complex and shift-prone present themselves (I can say that I, personally, in almost 21 years of serious jamming, have never played with a single vocalist that can handle math-rock in any way, shape or form).
Fat History Month make it sound easy, but that doesn’t mean it’s easy for the listener. Dynamics shift wildly, sandcastles of sound are built and flooded, then rebuilt and double-flooded before another eventual rebuild and flood-flood-floody … Such a wide-eyed and enthusiastic presentation won’t be ignored for long, folks. When these white kids put down their KAOS PADS “WHOO” and pick up guitars again, it’ll be groups like FHM that will have been in on the joke long before it’s widely told. I’d put this record up against 90 percent of the music I’ve heard over the last few years, if not more. I have a special LP shelf space reserved for records I revisit too constantly to chance to the mega MINDFUK that is my collection overall; I’m not yet sure if Fucking Despair will quite make it to this shelf (only folks like Sun RaJoe MeekVincent GalloOmar Rodriguez-LopezZach HillDuster and John Phillips [solo] do), but it’s definitely earned the right to be part of the conversation.
